Submission Process

Submissions will open April 1, 2026

Submission Deadline: May 24th, 2026

Current Bakersfield College students are eligible for publication in this journal, and we welcome work from all disciplines. We encourage submissions representing the full range of works–scholarly papers, creative works (including poems, plays, stories, artwork, photos, musical or dramatic performances), and most other media.

Please submit all work along with the submission form below–one form for each submission. If you have material that you have trouble submitting here (due to a large file size, for example), please send us a message through our Contact Us page.

All submitted artwork will be considered for publication on the cover!

Submission Requirements and Process:

  1. Submissions must be received by the deadline listed above.
  2. All work must be original and previously submitted in a course at Bakersfield College.
  3. Each student may submit a maximum of 5 works to be considered for each issue. Consider submitting your best work and/or submitting to the next issue.
  4. Submissions may be of any medium, including text, professional photo (i.e. photos of artwork), video (i.e. videos of musical or dramatic performances), and mp3.
  5. Text documents must be submitted in Word document format (.doc/.docx) and not a pdf.
  6. Images should be in .JPEG or .PNG at full resolution (no screenshots). Images should be at least 3,000 pixels tall or wide. (How to Photograph Your Art)
  7. If you are a current BC student and would like to submit work not submitted for a course, please contact the Executive Editor at jeffrey.eagan@bakersfieldcollege.edu
  8. All accepted submissions to The Grapevine Journal are published online. Publication in either format represents full acceptance into The Grapevine Journal and carries equal weight, recognition, and value. Authors should submit their work in the form that best represents the project. If appendices or supplemental materials are essential to the work, authors are encouraged to submit the full document. Accepted works may appear in one of two formats:
    • Curated PDF Issue: A designed issue featuring a selection of shorter works that fit within layout and length constraints.
    • Web Exclusives: An online publication space for longer works, technical reports, projects with extensive appendices, data visualizations, or supporting materials.

  1. To submit your work, please fill out this submission form and upload your submission before clicking the “submit” button at the bottom of the page.
